PRIDE OF PLACE
Co-operation Ireland in conjunction with its all island Local Authority partners is once again proud to present the prestigious Pride of Place competition. The contest is island-wide and seeks to celebrate community group contributions to local society and the creation of civic pride. The focus is on local people coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their area. Pride of Place also encourages entrants to look at other community group undertakings and learn from their experience through networks and information exchanges.BACKGROUND TO THE EVENT
Pride of Place has enjoyed tremendous success and continues to grow in terms of prestige and popularity. The competition is hosted by Co-operation Ireland under its Local Authority Programme in conjunction with the All-Island Local Authority Steering Forum comprising officials from Authorities in both parts of Ireland. In 2004, 90 cities, towns and villages throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland were nominated by their Local Authorities to take part in the competition. The Pride of Place competition is proudly endorsed by the Department of the Environment,
“In Pride of Place, community groups across the island of Ireland have the unique opportunity to showcase specific pride initiatives. Over the last few years, we have been encouraged by the standard of what can be achieved when local people work together. In 2005, we anticipate an even higher level of community group achievement and look forward to seeing the highlights of your activities this year.” Jocelyn Cull, Pride of Place Co-ordinator.Tullow Parish represented County Carlow in two categories.
