RIVER SLANEY, FROM SOURCE TO SEA

Local artist, John Duffy launched his latest book entitled the River Slaney, from source to sea at Ballykealy Manor House Hotel last Tuesday 7th November. The new 123 page book is written and illustrated by John with the foreword written by the noted environmentalist, Dick Warner.

A self taught artist John s first book the Churches of Kildare and Leighlin was a study of the 117 churches in the diocese and was a great success. This time round the new book was a family affair as John s son Eoin, a graphic designer by trade, helped to design the book.

The book looks at the history of the 33 bridges along the River Slaney, fishing and boating on the river, Slaney men of 98 and miscellaneous items concerning the river.

As Dick Warner comments John s book not only illustrates every single bridge over the Slaney, it also includes a huge amount of information about the river in general and the bridges in particular. However, well you know the area, you re guaranteed that you ll find fascinating new information.
