In 1830 an old dwelling house in Tullowbeg was taken over by the local Medical Board and converted into a fever hospital. The building was renovated in 1833. In 1907 the foundation stone for a new hospital was laid. Three years later in 1910 the new hospital was opened and appropriately named after St Patrick. This hospital served Tullow as a general, fever, and tuberculosis treatment centre until it closed in 1960.
In 1966 the building was taken over by the Cheshire Ireland and was opened as St Patrick's Cheshire Home Tullow in 1967 to care for people with disability. When the Home in Tullow celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Tullow, Group Captain Leonard Cheshire the Foundations founder visited Tullow and participated in the celebrations.
In the 1980's the Home was extended. In the late 1990's a new Chalet Complex was added and officially opened by President of Ireland.
Today the staff and volunteers continue to care for the residents of St Patrick's Cheshire Home, Tullow, with great love and dedication.
