Report of Parish Pastoral Council 2010 – 2011

CHILD PROTECTION
The Parish Pastoral Council met on a monthly basis during the year.  Having finished the previous year by organising a Parish Open Forum to discuss the Murphy Report on Child Abuse in the Dublin Archdiocese, the Council spent time at meetings during the year reviewing the Child Protection procedures in this Parish which are fully compliant with the National Guidelines for Safeguarding Children.

PARISH SURVEY
The Pastoral Council also studied the responses to the Parish Survey on the strengths of the parish, the areas that need to be looked at, parishioners’ dreams for the parish and how people can contribute to the life of the Parish.  A summary of these responses was published.  These responses formed the basis for the drafting of a Mission Statement for the Parish.  This draft was circulated for comment, and is now completed.  The Mission Statement will form the core of a proposed Parish Pastoral Plan.

CONSTITUTION
Work was done on drafting a formal constitution for the Parish Pastoral Council.  The final draft was approved by the Diocesan Administrator, Monsignor Brendan Byrne.

SOCIAL FUNCTION
The Council organised a social function for the large number of people who are involved in the work of the parish. This took place last January in the Murphy Memorial Hall.

HOLY ANGELS’ MEMORIAL
Memorials to the Holy Angels were erected in cemeteries during the year.  The Pastoral Council lent its support to this important commemoration.

PARISH MISSION
A Parish Mission was organised by the Pastoral Council during Lent.  Much positive comment was received about the calibre of the speakers and especially about the Service for the Sick.

PASTORAL  AREAS
Members of the Council were involved in the Pastoral Areas meetings which were held throughout the Diocese in response to the growing shortage of priests.  The Council also heard reports from members who attended meetings of the Deanery, courses on Child Protection, conferences and training sessions for Parish Councils etc.

GOLDEN JUBILEE
The year’s work ended with the Council organising a Mass and Social Evening to celebrate the occasion of Monsignor Brendan Byrne’s Golden Jubilee of his Ordination to the Priesthood.
