The inaugural meeting of Tullow Active Retirement Association took place on 23rd September, 2002. There is a present membership of 118. Active retirement provides the key to a healthier life and is a friendship and support club for the over fifties. Tullow is one of over 300 such branches nationwide and members are encouraged to socialise with other branches.
Members take part in aqua aerobics and other pool activities at the Mount Wolseley Hilton Leisure Centre. Some engage in short mat bowling at the Capt. Murphy Memorial Hall while other members do yoga on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
In addition to physical activities, the group goes on day tours, theatre outings, and on holidays both at home and abroad as well as participating in music and storytelling sessions.
They have attended a garden party given by President Mary McAleese and also visited the Dail and Seanad.
